These are some of the best places to view fireworks in NYC and make the most of the city’s beautiful waterfront setting.

South Street Seaport Area

The South Street Seaport area offers some of the clearest views of the fireworks in all of Manhattan, with viewing spots on FDR Drive between South and Montgomery Streets. This is a fun place to be on the 4th because Freedom Fest is taking place at Pier 15 from 6:30pm to 11:30pm. Festival attendees will enjoy four hours of premium open bar, and summer BBQ buffet, dancing, and a great view of the fireworks show.

John V. Lindsay East River Park

Another nice spot to watch Macy’s annual pyrotechnics display is John V. Lindsay East River Park because it’s right along the river. You can typically find public viewing locations here for free at Houston Street and FDR Drive. Just be aware that as certain locations become overcrowded, they may be closed off, and spectators will be redirected to other open spaces along FDR.

According to Macy’s, the best viewing locations from Houston to Midtown are the elevated portions of the FDR at Houston Street, 23rd Street, 34th Street, and 42nd Street. If you’re in Lower Manhattan, recommended entry points are the ground level of Broad Street, the upper level of Old Slip, and at Pearl and Frankfort.

Brooklyn Bridge Park, Piers 1-6

Another very popular place to be on the 4th is between Piers 1 and 6. Brooklyn Bridge Park offers lovely views of the fireworks and is always buzzing with activity. Make sure to take public transportation to get here, and keep in mind that many of the local attractions close before the start of the fireworks show. A popular rooftop restaurant and bar here is Fornino, which offers wood-fired pizza and great views of the fireworks. It’s at Pier 6, and tickets should be purchased in well in advance.
